Red Rock Software Powers the Department of Energy’s COMcheck Software

Free Energy Compliance Software Receives a New, Platform Independent User Interface Programmed Entirely in Java

SALT LAKE CITY and RICHLAND, WA., September 21, 2004 - Red Rock Software and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory today announced the release of a new Java version of COMcheck-EZ™ - a free computer software application provided by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) which streamlines the energy code compliance and approval process for those in the commercial building industry. The new Java version provides platform-independent user interfaces allowing the software to run on either Windows® or Macintosh® computers.

“We’ve worked with Red Rock Software on previous projects and their extensive experience with Macintosh programming and the Java language made them an ideal candidate for updating COMcheck,” said Krishnan Gowri, senior research engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. “With Red Rock’s new Java interface, not only are we able to offer COMcheck to a larger audience, we have a single UI code base for both the Windows and Macintosh versions.”

COMcheck-EZ provides a simple, easy-to-use application for designers, builders, and those who enforce building codes an efficient means for demonstrating energy code compliance. The latest software version, release 3.0, includes a new user interface and adds the enforceable provisions in commercial building energy codes based on IECC 2003. The software also includes provisions based on ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-1989/1999/2001 and IECC 1998, 2000 and 2001 that are applicable to commercial and high-rise residential projects, including building envelope, lighting, HVAC, and service water heating requirements.

“We are very enthusiastic about our work with COMcheck,” said Craig Hopson, CEO of Red Rock Software. “With Java, we are able to open the doors to many users on alternative platforms. And with the increase in COMcheck users, it is gratifying to know that we are helping to reduce energy cost and save money for potentially millions of people throughout the United States.”
